A legacy of art has been passed to Denise Weston through her father, mother and maternal grandparents and great-grandparents. After graduating Summa cum Laude in Visual Arts from the University of California at San Diego, Denise moved from sunny Southern California to the land of her dreams, the Pacific Northwest and earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Printmaking from the University of Oregon in Eugene. Part of what informs Denise’s work is her deep interest in art history, and she feels blessed to have journeyed to Europe several times and to have traveled frequently in the United States viewing art and architecture.
A competing gymnast in high school and college, Denise has fine-tuned her multiple creative gifts through engagement in many fields, including visual arts, arts education, theater, copy writing and copy editing, marketing, manufacturing, and sales. Denise’s lifelong theme has been one of creativity, and she expresses that best through her immersion in the visual arts. Denise has won awards for her art, presented one-person exhibits as well as juried group exhibits and has attained juried member status in the Southwest Washington Watercolor Society.
Denise has been privileged to study with artists of the highest caliber, including Francoise Gilot, Harry Sternberg, Joe Mugnaini, Patricia Clark, Jan Kunz, Bernard Poulin, Italo Scanga, Cornelia von Mengershausen, Eleanor Antin, Allan Kaprow, Newton Harrison, LaVerne Krause, Ken Paul, Max Nixon, Susan Cowan and Lee Baughman, among others.
Denise has successfully produced and sold drawings, watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, etchings, lithographs, monoprints, silk screens, woodcuts, trompe l’oeil murals, jewelry, silk ribbon embroidery, pottery, clay and bronze sculpture, as well as working in formats of greatly differing sizes from Artist’s Cards (ACEOs) to theatrical set painting and room-sized murals. She also designs marketing materials including business cards, one sheets for speakers, brochures and other print and web-based promotional pieces.
Denise’s work is in public and private collections throughout the United States and as well as international venues. Denise recently won the Honorable Mention award for her painting, “Chloe” in the Fall Juried Exhibit 2012 of the Southwest Washington Watercolor Society.
Currently owner with her husband, Rod, of Virtual Websource, a website development company, Denise divides her time between website design, photo editing and her painting. She is proud mom of two successful children, and resides in Vancouver, Washington with Rod and their Rat Terrier, Lucy.
