Everyone Has a Gift: Step-by-Step Art for Beginners and Seniors

In my last note I shared that I’m still painting, and that I’m also teaching—especially beginners, returning artists, and seniors who want to make art without feeling rushed or “not good enough.”

That’s what the YouTube channel is for.

The videos are clear, step-by-step tutorials. I film overhead so you can see the marks as they happen. We work in drawing, painting, pastels, collage, and mixed media. Subjects stay approachable—an apple for learning values, simple still lifes, texture techniques, ways to build confidence with materials you already have. The goal is watchable lessons you can pause, replay, and try at your own pace.

I make these for people who have always wanted to create but weren’t sure where to begin, or who set art aside for years and are ready to pick it up again. Age is not a barrier. Experience is not required. What matters is the willingness to try.

Everyone has a purpose and a gift. Creativity is part of that. It doesn’t have to look like a finished gallery painting on the first try. It can look like the quiet satisfaction of seeing a form take shape under your hand, of mixing a color that feels right, of finishing something and knowing you made it. That joy is available at any age.

If you’ve been telling yourself you’re not artistic, or that it’s too late, or that you need special supplies or formal training before you can start—please know those are common thoughts, and they don’t have to decide for you. The tutorials are designed to meet you where you are and walk through the steps with you.

You’ll find the channel here: Art with Denise Clark Weston.

A simple next step is to watch one video—perhaps one of the beginner apple studies, or the texture demonstration—and see how it feels. If something sparks, try it. If you have a subject or medium you’d like to see next, you’re welcome to leave a comment or write to me. I read them.

Thank you for being here, whether you’re returning from the festival booths or arriving for the first time. There’s room for you.

With gratitude and a brush in hand,
Denise Clark Weston
